Your data, clearly explained

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what FiberSnap processes, why it is needed, and the choices available to you.

1. Overview

FiberSnap is a fiber-tracking application designed to work without a user account. Food logs, goals, profile preferences, saved meals, and local thumbnails are stored on your device using Apple platform storage. FiberSnap does not operate an advertising profile and does not sell personal information.

Health notice: FiberSnap provides general nutrition information and habit-tracking tools. It is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis, treatment, or individualized medical advice.

2. Information stored on your device

The following information is stored locally in the app:

  • Food log entries, portions, dates, and calculated fiber values.
  • Goals, ramp-up plan settings, onboarding preferences, and optional profile information.
  • Saved meals and small meal-photo thumbnails you choose to retain.
  • App preferences and security state needed to operate the service.

We do not receive this local history unless a feature described below requires a specific item to be transmitted.

3. AI meal scanning and coaching

Meal photos

When you deliberately use AI meal scanning, the app compresses the selected image and sends it to FiberSnap’s serverless API, which forwards it to Google’s Gemini API to identify visible foods and estimate portions. FiberSnap’s server does not intentionally save the photo. A small thumbnail may remain on your device if you add the result to your log.

Coach requests

For AI coaching, the app sends your remaining fiber target, time-of-day category, and a limited candidate list of food names and database-calculated portions. It does not send your full food journal or identity. Gemini selects only among those candidate foods; it does not determine their nutrition values.

AI provider retention

Data processed by the Gemini API is subject to Google’s applicable API terms and data-handling policies. Google may retain prompts and responses for a limited period for abuse monitoring, depending on the service configuration and billing status. Do not submit images containing sensitive documents, faces, or unrelated private information.

4. Other processing and service providers

  • Vercel: hosts FiberSnap’s serverless API and may process standard network and operational logs.
  • Google Gemini: processes meal images and constrained coaching prompts when you use AI features.
  • USDA FoodData Central: receives food search terms through our API when an additional nutrition match is needed.
  • Open Food Facts: may receive a scanned barcode directly from the app to retrieve product data.
  • Upstash Redis: stores short-lived security challenges, App Attest public-key records, replay counters, and pseudonymous daily usage counters.
  • RevenueCat: processes a pseudonymous app user identifier, product and transaction metadata, and subscription entitlement status so FiberSnap can provide and restore premium access.
  • Apple: processes App Attest, App Store transactions, subscriptions, and diagnostics according to Apple’s policies.

Network requests also necessarily expose technical information such as an IP address, request time, and basic device or protocol information to the relevant network provider.

5. Security and retention

FiberSnap uses HTTPS, Apple App Attest, signed StoreKit transaction verification, one-time challenges, and per-device fair-use limits. Security records and rate-limit counters are retained only as needed to validate requests, prevent replay, and enforce service limits. Local app data remains until you remove it, reset the app, or delete the app, subject to device backups controlled by you and Apple.

6. Your choices

  • You can log foods manually without submitting a meal photo to Gemini.
  • You can choose whether to save a meal or local thumbnail.
  • You can remove individual entries or reset FiberSnap data from the app.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account settings.
  • You can disable camera, photo-library, or notification permission in iOS Settings.

7. Children

FiberSnap is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required by local law to consent to digital services. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as FiberSnap develops. The effective date will be revised when material changes are published. Privacy questions can be directed through the support contact shown on FiberSnap’s App Store product page once the app becomes available.
